Moana Rehearsal Information

NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR
January 12
Hey Y'all!
Last week's monster rehearsals were awesome. In our first rehearsal, tears were shed because of how beautiful this cast sounds. I can't wait for you to hear them! I'm including the bulk of last week's note just because there's still a few families that have yet to see it. However, please make sure you all read this week's new announcements and let me know if there are any questions!
NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS AS OF 1/12
-
SHOES!: The costume department and I have decided that EVERY cast member needs a pair of jazz dance shoes. We've found a distributer that will give us these shoes for super cheap. The attached form is being handed out during tomorrow's rehearsal and is due back to Mr. Nate, along with $9, by the rehearsal on Thursday, January 15. Please be careful when you fill out your child's sizing! Since these are coming from overseas, sizing is different from what we're used to seeing.
-
NOTE: If you can NOT afford the $9 price, no shade or shame. Please let me or Kristl Nelson know and we will find money for you!
-
-
VOLUNTEER: Now is the time where production team members may be reaching out for help. If they are, that means they need it. If you're able to donate some of your time, please sign up to help.
-
UPDATED PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE: I had to correct a couple of mistakes to the performance schedule I released last week. If you want the monologue of why I had to do this, I'll tell you. Otherwise, check it out here: Updated Performance Schedule
-
DUE DATES: READ THEM!!

MONSTER REHEARSAL PROTOCOLS
-
ABSENCES: If you recall from the parent meeting and Moana Contract, each cast member is permitted 3 absences from rehearsals before their participation in the show becomes jepordized. Excessive absences became an arduous issue last year and I'm really cracking down hard on it with this production. REHEARSALS MUST BE MADE A PRIORITY! I've already had a handful of students come up to me today and tell me they didn't know there was practice tomorrow. This excuse will never be honored as the master schedule was also handed out at the parent meeting and all participants have had ample time to change their schedules.
-
LACED SHOES: No slides or any form of unsecure footwear are/is permitted in the rehearsal space. Shoes must be laced or strapped. This is for the sake of safety as we are frequently running through the rehearsal space. Any student not wearing appropriate footwear will be required to sit out during blocking/choreography sessions.
-
PUNCTUALITY: Rehearsals end promptly at 4:30PM every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with some lead characters staying until 5:30PM (check the master schedule for this specific information). Make sure your child's ride is waiting outside the school by then. I can't leave the building until every cast member is picked up so please don't waste my time.
-
Traffic can be super daunting so you might consider carpooling whenever possible.
-
-
EARLY CHECKOUT: Remember that you must physically come into the building to check your child out early. I will NOT let them leave the auditorium/building on their own accord. The rehearsal secretary will be in the auditorium right when you walk in and will take care of you.
-
COMMUNICATE: Please communicate via email if your child will be late, absent, or picked up early. You can contact either Kayla (kayla.heifner@slcschools.org) or myself (nathan.holcomb@slcschools.org).
-
CELL PHONES: I will NEVER compete with these. If your child is caught with their phone out during the rehearsal period, it will be confiscated by me and their guardian must come and pick it up after rehearsal.
-
SNACKS: No food is permitted in the auditorium at anytime. Please pack an extra snack for your child to eat between school's end (2:30PM) and rehearsal's start (2:45PM).
I think that's enough information for this week. As I said above, please reach out with ANY questions. I'm excited to get this show on the road!
