Liz Buirley

About Me

This is Ms. Buirley’s fifth year at Hillside Middle School and her 20th year as an educator. She has enjoyed teaching Language Arts for 19 years but is excited to be taking on the librarian position this year. Her formative years were spent in Colorado where she rode the cattle fields on a pony named Peanut.  Much of her youth, she raised, trained and cared for horses.  Ms. Buirley graduated from Utah State University with a Liberal Arts degree, leaving that bucolic cow town for employment at an advertising agency in Salt Lake City. She later worked several years at a Veterinary Clinic while attending the University of Utah to obtain her teaching degree in English. She obtained a Masters in Secondary Education and ELP from Utah State University. A few random facts about Ms. Buirley: Last spring break, she took some family members sea kayaking among seals and sea otters in the Triangle of Red Death, not knowing Monterey Bay is part of prime hunting ground for Great White Sharks.  In 1973, she and a friend were the first girls to sport the newly approved pants outfit in their Girl Scout troop. She recently acquired a desire to study mycology, so she might help fight the fungi that are killing the frogs, Cypress trees and now endangering the Hotel Utah Peregrine falcon.
